A daily kitten’s workout

When they are approximately four weeks old they are getting more interested in each other and they play around. Straight away, after their birth, they started looking for their own teat and they start pushing each other.  After a few days, each kitten has found his or her favourite teat, and everything’s back to normal. All kittens are peacefully drinking and mummy is purring.

The daily routine for kittens is a happy one: they sleep, drink and play. When they are awake, they start rambling. I like to think that they are sharing their experiences with the other kittens, because there is a lot of meowing. When they were younger they were always together, sometimes they were all snuggling up to each other. Now their specific workout starts: kitten wrestlingJ. They do not have a specific technique; they just get hold of each other wherever they can.

They mostly stay in their cosy den, where they feel safe. Mummy is taking short walks but Shadee does not lose sight of her kittens for a moment. When her kittens call her, she comes and she acquaints herself of the situation in her den. Most of the time she start washing her kittens thoroughly something they do not happily undergo. They just grab their chance to get hold of one of the others. This is a successful strategy, because kittens are there for the taking. Enthusiastically they seize an ear, a leg or a foot, it appears painful and sometimes it does. The victim meows loudly and his opponent releases his victim. The latter tries to move away, this way kittens learn by example how to play without hurting each other.
That is very important because they have tiny but very sharp teeth and sharp claws.
The four weeks old kittens leave the den to undertake actions in the “great outdoors”. They still need each other for a bit of encouragement, so when one kittens goes exploring the others will follow. They decide to undertake adventures upon themselves, under mummy’s supervision of course. It is an uncontrollable instinct despite their awkward movements. Unconsciously they collide with each other, and they start a brawl. However, their wrestling matches always ends in a draw. After their activities, they return to their den, where mummy waits.

Have a adventurous happy day today.
                                         Love Conny
