It has been snowing and the Bengals are very anxious
to get in their garden. Agitated they waited for us in the kitchen and they all
crowded round the kitchen door. They meowed: “Where are you waiting for, open
the kitchen door please.” When we took our time, they decided that we need motivating.
Wasilla has the most effective method for getting our attention. She waited for
us to come into the kitchen and then she turns her head, looked at us,
scratched the kitchen door and meowed. Opening the kitchen door was just what she
expected us to do and so we did.
Sammy has another tactic: he meowed and meowed loudly
and continuously. He is convinced that his wish is our command, that is
the way a male Bengal thinks.
Ginger is taking her time to explore her changed
territory very closely. At first, she starts observing Wasilla and Sammy.
Wasilla is patrolling her territory and Sammy: well he is just enjoying the
snow, having fun and he is running and jumping.
Ginger is observing the changes in her surroundings and
has a good and intense sniff. She is not
happy at all and when she jumps of the bench, she carefully walks step by step.
Most of what our cats do know is based on their habits
so our cats have their own “Bengalesk” perception of their
environment. Sammy is impulsive but Ginger is not, still they are the very best
friends.
Ginger has examined the garden, she has nibbled the
grass and now she is going to look for the small critters who are hiding. She
is ready and goes on the prowl. Unfortunately, those little rascals are hiding
very well. Even after extensive searching Ginger cannot find anything between
the plants.
Bengals are not able to focus when nothing is
happening. When a prey is hiding motionless, there is a good change of
escaping. A running prey triggers a cats hunting instinct. Therefore, when
nothing seems to be hiding in the plants Ginger looks around and sees Sammy
hunting and she decided to join him.
Obviously, Sammy is hunting a prey in a bush and he is
jumping to get his prey. Ginger decides to have a close look and observe Sammy’s
actions. She does not see his prey, but Sammy seemed to be convinced there is something
hiding in the bush.
Just in case, Ginger is ready for action: all eyes and
ears, a forepaw raised and ready for a super-fast attack.
Nevertheless, she
decides to look for a better and suitable place overlooking Sammy’s actions. Ginger
prefers to stalk her prey but Sammy is making such a racket that she cannot
concentrate. She is convinced the prey has escaped. Suddenly she hears rustling
on the far side of the garden.
After searching for the exact place, she starts
scratching in the snow. She intends to get her prey, but suddenly she stops
digging.
A few weeks ago, we had a few days with frost and
snow. Ginger was playing in the garden en stepped on the ice of the pond. When
she heard the ice cracking, but nothing happened and she continued her walk. Unfortunately,
she fell through the ice, but it took her a second to climb ashore. There she
was ice-cold and soaking wet.
Suddenly Ginger stopped digging; probably she remembered
her adventure on the frozen pond. That started with digging in the snow too and
ended by making a freezing fool of her. She remembered appearances are deceptive
in case of snow, so take care.
Take good care of yourself today.
Love Conny
