Learning by play. Accommodations

Learning by play. Accommodations

Kittens are developing physically and mentally  fast and they have their basics needs. Mummy has to have a safe den where she is able to care for her kittens. We always try to be as effective as possible. Therefor we use “housing facilities” that are easy adaptable to the needs of mother and her kittens.

The first weeks mother prefers a small and intimate place to have her kittens. We try to imitate the natural needs of our cats, so Ivan has made a wooden box with a round opening. The opening is not in the middle of the box creating a more enclosed possibility for the mother cat to choose from.

This box is extremely effective when we need to assist the mother cat while her kittens are born. Most mothers just want us to be there and there’s no denying that the birth of a litter is a social event. The other cats often join us and they are keeping us company from time to time. It’s a privilege to participate the birth of a litter.

When mother needs our help, we can address the problem easily, because the front and the top of the box are removable. Soft furnishings are making this den comfortable and warm. When necessary we place a special source of heat in her den.

We place the den in a children’s pen, because we don’t want changes too soon. When the kittens are older they can safely expand their explorations. Of course the children’s play pen has soft furnishings as well. Only the best is good enough for our Bengals.

When mummy needs to stretch her legs or wants to visit the other cats to discuss the latest news and gossips, the babies are safe in their den. Most of the time their sleeping comfortably and when they need mummy they only have to call her.

The kittens stay in their den until they try to climb out of the children’s den. Until that moment have they have the time of their life.
